Welcome to our new Chair!

Congratulations to Tamara Hedges. At the most recent DENO Board meeting there was a "changing of the guard." Les Wheeler stepped down as the Chairperson, since he and Bob Crebo will be leaving Deepwell soon to move into their condo in Palm Springs. Tamara was appointed to fill the vacancy, and then voted by the Board to fill the Chair position. Tamara has been a DENO Board member previously, serving from 2007 to 2016.  We are delighted that she has decided to return to the Board.

DENO's Lemon Fest 2019

In the middle of January we held the first ever Lemon Fest to celebrate our  glorious and abundant lemon harvest. The instructions were simple: bring something made with (or about) lemons. Participants went wild, some of them cooking for weeks ahead, trying all sorts of new recipes, while others shared their most trusted favorites.

DENO Lemon Fest 2019

In the middle of January we held the first ever Lemon Fest to celebrate our  glorious and abundant lemon harvest. The instructions were simple: bring something made with (or about) lemons. Participants went wild, some of them cooking for weeks ahead, trying all sorts of new recipes, while others shared their most trusted favorites.

In addition to  enjoying everyone's creations, we had a very informal vote to determine the "best" en try for the day. Although it was tough determining a favorite, Ramona Skola took
first prize with her Baked Lemon
Pudding served with Berries and Cream. Next was Lois Graziano's Lemon Biscotti, then a 3-way tie for Rosemary Humphrey's Lemon Fruit Dip, Carole Burnis's Greek Lemon Chicken and Michael Gold's Lemon Basil Pasta Salad with Peas & Zucchini.  But truly everyone was a winner with their creation and the ability to taste test such a variety of items. And an honorable mention goes to the most prodigious participant Ken Pu who created at least five different recipes from Lemoncello to Dark Chocolate covered Candied Lemon Peel - he was an inspiration to us all! (photo right of only 3 of his creations)

It was a fun way to share  our friendships, meet a few new friends, and enjoy good food.  The event also gave each of us a new appreciation for the vast variety of ways to take pleasure in our lemon bounty. The internet, of course, was a great resource to get us thinking about different ways to use lemons, but we also appreciate other's willingness to share their family favorites.

After the festivities, the recipes were distributed to all the participants. If anyone else would like them, please email your request to Request Recipes.
